U.S. Olympic Hurdler Lolo Jones announced that Procter & Gamble is donating $25,000 to the P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund.
Jones is teaming up with P&G to remind everyone that even in times of extreme financial hardship, you can reach your goals of providing the best for your family through hard work, determination and the assistance of others.
“Growing up we didn’t have a lot of money so my mom really had to stretch her budget,” Jones said. “My family really benefited from the great values we received on P&G products from Family Dollar. That’s why I’m so excited to announce my partnership with Procter & Gamble and their donation of $25,000 to the P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund on behalf of Family Dollar to help other young athletes achieve their dreams.”
P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund was established to help the US Olympic Committee and its National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and Paralympic High Performance Management Organizations (HPMOs) deliver quality, sustainable youth sports programs in the U.S. The P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund will help moms raise happy, healthy kids by providing broader access to youth sports.
“Lolo is known for getting it done and overcoming life’s obstacles both on and off the track,” said Todd Warstler Director, P&G Business at Family Dollar. “By offering great P&G products like Tide, Bounty, Febreze and Crest, we can make it a little easier for other young athletes and their families to reach their goals.”
Jones attended eight schools in eight years while her single mother often held down two jobs to support her family of six. In third grade, the Jones family settled in the basement of a Des Moines-area church. Lolo attributes her success to the support of her mom and community, as well as hard work and determination.
After years of hard work, Jones became a successful track and field athlete who specializes in the 60 and 100 meter hurdles. She won three NCAA titles and garnered 11 All-American honors while attending Louisiana State University. She won indoor national titles in 2007, 2008 and 2009 in the 60 meter hurdles, and won her first World Indoor Championship in 2008 in the same event. She was favored to win the 100 meter hurdles at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, but she tripped on the penultimate hurdle, finishing in seventh place. She went on to win silver at the 2008 World Athletics Final.
